Ear Cleaning

ALL EARS HAVE WAX. A LITTLE WAX IS GOOD.

It keeps your ears moist, repels bugs, and prevents infections from bacteria and germs. However, some ears produce too much wax. It builds up and can actually block your hearing ability. Removing impacted earwax is not a do-it-yourself project.

WHAT SHOULD NORMAL EARWAX LOOK LIKE?

There are different kinds of earwax. Some wax is soft and gooey, some is hard and impacted, and some is flaky and loose. Because of this, there are different methods required to safely remove it, including suction, curettes, and flushing.

ARE THERE AT-HOME METHODS TO TRY?

Cotton swabs usually just push the wax deeper inside your ear, making it even harder to remove. Never, ever try ear candling. Burns are all too common, and the wax you see afterward is from the candle itself, not your ears. In addition, over-the-counter earwax removal kits are problematic because you simply can’t see what you’re doing inside your own ear canal.
